Mexican driver Perez said that he has made progress in the future of F1, but potential teams and himself are not in a hurry to make a decision on where to go for the 2021 season.
After being terminated early by the racing team, Perez is looking for other F1 seats. Before the match point finally decided to abandon Perez, the latter has not publicly negotiated with other teams, but now he has made it clear that the negotiations are ongoing.
In the 2021 season, Perez’s realistic choices are the Haas team and Alfa Romeo team, only they have not yet determined the 2021 season driver lineup.
Perez emphasized that he only hopes to sign contracts with teams that are willing to provide contracts until 2022, which means that Perez’s bottom line is a two-year contract. During the Russian Grand Prix, Perez stated that progress had been made, but did not expect to conclude negotiations quickly.
"Not yet signed," Perez said, "but there will definitely be progress in the coming weeks. As I said before, no one is in a hurry at this stage: the team is not in a hurry, and I am not in a hurry. So let's wait and see. There is still a long way to go."
The Haas team’s candidate list includes about 10 people, including Grosjean and Magnussen. Despite Perez's strong track performance and sponsorship from Mexican companies, Haas team leader Sternell said that signing Perez still needs to weigh repeatedly.
Alfa Romeo has not yet decided on his seat next season, and returning to this team is also one of Perez's choices.
McLaren has made it clear that he hopes to sign Perez and let him participate in the Indy tournament next season. This may be Perez's last choice.
